BookTubeAThon 2015 Wrap-Up!

Guys! BookTubeAThon 2015 is over. It feels so sad. I’m already looking forward to next year. But, I totally aced it this year! I kind of had a tough private life because I didn’t have a job and it was really affecting my psychologically. I turned to books as a way of comfort, and maybe I did too much because I read 12 books and started 2! That is crazy. I managed to read this much as a result of finding Scribd, a site with audiobooks and e-books. I listened to so many audiobooks this week which helped me get through so much.

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

This book was more than I expected. It is the sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, and as you may know, there has been so much controversy surrounding this book. I did not think it was as bad as everyone said it was. It completed the challenge of reading a book with blue on the cover and reading the last book you acquired!

A Series of Unfortunate Events (1-4) by Lemony Snicket

I read other books in between listening to these books, but I want to mention them all together. I listened to all four on audiobook and I definitely think it was a great way of consuming this story. It was dark and still had many messages. I loved how Lemony Snicket didn’t dumb everything down, even though it is a children’s book. It felt true and honest.

Triangles by Ellen Hopkins

I was seriously so disappointed while reading this book. I recently read Tilt by Ellen Hopkins, which followed a group of teenagers whom I found to be extremely annoying. This book followed the teenagers’ mothers. The mothers are even more annoying than the teenagers. The whole time I was reading this, I just wanted it to end. This completed the challenge of reading a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

This book is all about video games and the 80’s and if you like that, definitely check this book out. The beginning was very slow for me and I had troubles getting past that section because there was so much world building. Once the action started, it got sooo good. I definitely recommend this book to all of you. It completed the challenge of reading someone else’s favorite book, and then reading a book you really want to read.

Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick

I read Brian Selznick’s other book right before the BookTubeAThon, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and I was amazed. I loved it so much, and I loved the use of text and pictures together. I had this book and it was staring at me (the spine is half a face, so it was literally staring at me) so I picked it up. It tells two different stories, one of Ben, and the second is Rose’s. Ben’s story is told in text while Rose’s is told in pictures. It was just so good and the stories linked together beautifully. I loved this book so much.

The Scene: Part Three by Roxy Sloane

This is the third and final part in the Scene series and this just didn’t live up to my expectations. I was really excited to read it and I wanted something… Erotic. Instead, it kind of turned into a murder mystery kind of book, which wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t what it said it was. This completed the challenge of reading a book without letting go of it.

The Good Girl by Mary Kubica

Another disappointment, unfortunately. I talked about this a bit in my Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag and as I stated there, this was completely wrong advertised. It was advertised as a psychological thriller, suspense novel, but I got what seemed like a contemporary instead. I was so disappointed.

How It Went Down by Kekla Magoon

I feel bad for saying this because I believe this is a book with truly important messages for our time, but this was really disappointing as well. It is about a white guy who shoots a black guy to death. My biggest issue with this book was the use of several points of view. I do believe it could have been done well, but it was just way too confusing. There was no explanation of how they all knew each other and as soon as I thought I had the hang of who was who, I was proven wrong. Also, we got so many POVs, but never of the killer. Why? There was never an explanation for why the guy got killed, or anything like that. It had a really good premise, but it wasn’t done very well.

You by Caroline Kepnes

After many disappointments, I decided to read You, and I ened the BookTubeAThon with a bang. It was so good, I can’t even explain it. I listened to this on audiobook and I feel like that is the best way to consume this. It is about a guy named Joe who is completely obsessed with this girl called Beck. He breaks into her house, and just does completely crazy things. What I loved about this was how I somehow forgot Joe was completely sick, and I would kind of sympathise with him, and then he would do something crazy, like break into her house and sniff her panties. It is written from his point of view, but it second person, and my god, read this book. Just know, it definitely has some mature content.
